Sakura is the kind but naive 10-year-old heroine of the story. "Sakura" means "cherry blossoms," She attends Readington Elementary School, (Tomoeada Elementary School in the Original), and is a member of the cheerleading club. She was the girl who opened the Book of Clow and accidentally released all the Clow Cards. She received the magical key from Kero-chan, which can transform into a wand which has the power to capture back the cards. In that moment, Sakura became the Cardcaptor for the Clow Cards. Sakura is terrified of ghosts, and is horrified by anybody mentioning anything about them. As the series progresses, Sakura grows furthur in magical ability by each card capture, often in one of the unique and creative outfits that her best friend Tomoyo designs for her. Sakura often has premonitions in her dreams.

Tomoyo is Sakura's video camera toting best friend, who always designs outrageous, frilly battle costumes for Sakura. Tomoyo is always there to record the exploits of the Card Captor. She doesn't have any magic powers but has keen powers of observation. Tomoyo found out that Sakura was a Card Captor when she accidentally recorded her in the distance capturing the Fly Card. She was really happy when she discovered that it was Sakura she had caught on tape. Tomoyo is a good student at her school, Readington Elementary School, always getting excellent grades. Her hobby is making videos of Sakura, adding music and sound effects to the tape. Tomoyo's interest in Sakura is a bit intense...Tomoyo is very rich, and lives in a large mansion. She often has bodyguards dressed in black to protect her, and is driven around in a long limo.

Touya ( Tori) is Sakura's older brother. Even though he seems to be picking on Sakura and calling her "monster" all the time, he actually loves his little sister very much. He seems to possess some sort of power as well, and is suspected to be somehow related to the whole Clow Card thing. Touya's secret is that he can see that which is invisible and detect magical auras. Touya used to tease Sakura about seeing ghosts (Which he can see), but his exaggerations are what made her scared senseless of the spirit world. He has a thing for Yukito (Julian), his best friend, as it can clearly be seen from the manga and anime. The name "Touya" means peach blossom.

Fujitaka (Aiden) is Sakura and Tori's father. He is good at cooking and sewing. He's a very kind father who lost his young wife, Nadeshiko (Natasha), when she was 27. He is a professor of archaeology at a university. He is very good at sports as well. Although he is a kind person, many members of the Daidouji family hate him for "stealing" their daughter at such a young age. "Fuji" in "Fujitaka" means ivy. In the Manga, Aiden is the other half of the reincarnation of Clow Reed with Eriol being the other half.

Nadeshiko (Natasha) was Fujitaka's (Aiden's) wife and Tori and Sakura's mother. She married Aiden when she was still a high school student at the age of 16. Before she married, she worked as a fashion model. She died at the age of 27 when Sakura was only 3 years old. Sakura doesn't remember much about her mother, only through the stories her father tells her. But she loves her mother very much. At the house, they always have a picture of Natasha at the counter, either from magazine (her Father collected all her photos) or taken by Aiden. Natasha was a beautiful and gentle woman. Her name, Nadeshiko, means the flower "pink." Nadeshiko appears in the series only in flashbacks, or an angel to protect Sakura. Her cousin, Sonomi, was extremely protective of her, and was very jealous of Fujitaka when he took Nadeshiko from her. She's held bitter feelings towards Nadeshiko's husband ever since then.

Sonomi is Tomoyo's ( Madison's) beautiful mother, who used to be one of Fujitaka's (Aiden's) students in high school and Nadeshiko's (Natasha's) best friend since kindergarten. She's mad at Fujitaka because she says he took Nadeshiko away from her. Despite her feelings towards Sakura's father, she still treats Sakura with extreme kindness because she reminded her of Nadeshiko. She probably loved Nadeshiko more than just friends. She even has her daughter wear long hair because Nadeshiko had long hair. Currently, Sonomi is the owner of Daidouji Toyas, a large and successful toy corporation.

Cerberus is the magical guardian beast of the Clow, and has been nicknamed "Kero-chan" by Sakura. In Japanese, he speaks with an Osaka accent, which can seem harsh to those more used to the more standard Tokyo dialect. Kero is the Guardian Beast (or Beast of Seal) of the book "The Clow." Without enough magic, Kero can't return to his true form, and stays like the shape of a stuffed animal until Sakura captures "The Earthy" and "The Firey." Which will return him back to his original form, which is large lion without a mane, with angel-like wings and armor. In Greek mythology, Cerberus, or Kerberos, is a three-headed dog with a serpent or dragon tail, which guards the entrance to the Underworld. Kero had been asleep when Sakura accidentally released the Clow Cards from the book. The upset creature was the one who gave Sakura the sealing wand and the duty to capture back all the Clow Cards. Cerberus doesn't like Syaoran (Li), and is always insisting that Sakura is the official and correct cardcaptor. Kero is surprisingly immature at times, spending most of his day eating snacks or sweets and playing video games.

Special Abilities: As a decedent of Clow, Syaoran has magical powers and can sense the presence of the cards.

Syaoran ( Li ) is a glowering exchange student from Hong Kong and a distant relative of Clow Reed. He comes from a family of Chinese sorcerors. He believes that the Li family is entitled to the Clow Cards, and he and Sakura compete for them. When he first met Sakura, he treated her very badly, but later on, they develop respect for each other, and eventually that respect turned into love. Li is Meilin's cousin and fiance, which was arranged when they were born. Li seemed embarrassed by her most of the time, but his sense of honor wouldn't allow him to break their bond. But after Meilin realized that Li loved Sakura, the engagement was broken off. Li has 4 beautiful sisters back in Hong Kong. His mother is a very beautiful woman, who is a descendant of Clow Reed and very mysterious and powerful. Li was at first strongly attracted to Yukito (Julian) because of the moon, and would often strive to get Julian's attention and praise. The name "Syaoran" means Little Wolf

Meilin, is an original anime character. She transfers into Sakura and Li's class in episode 20. She is the arrogant cousin and fiancee (by prearranged marriage) of Li. She is proud and prickly, and like all shojo heroines, she has a major weakness where the boy in her life is concerned. Unlike many members of the Li family, Meilin has no magical powers of her own, but she is a competent martial artist. She wants to be a part of the cardcaptoring team in a more active way than toting around a video camera or cheering on the sidelines. She is very good at fist fights. At first, Meilin treats Sakura very rudely because she is competing against Li, whom she idolizes. Later on though, Meilin befriends Sakura. In the middle of the 2nd season, Meilin leaves the series to go back to Hong Kong to take care of her sick grandmother. ( Meilin was never in the manga).

Reincarnation of Clow Reed

Long ago, Clow Reed descended from two families strong in magic. His mother, from China, was skilled in Eastern magic, and his father, from England, in Western. He became the most powerful magician the world had ever seen. One of his greatest creations was the incredible Clow Cards, and along with these he created the guardians of the cards. He locked the cards into a book because magic can be very dangerous. He died many years ago…but was reincarnated as…Eriol. He made an appearance in the first movie and the final judgement. He was a kind man who loved to play tricks on Yue and Cerberus.

Yukito (Julian) is Touya's best friend. Sakura also admires him, and so does Li. He is a very kind person. Touya calls him by the nickname "Yuki." According to Sakura, he is smart, and he can do anything. Sakura used to have a big crush on Julian before she fell in love with Li. He doesn't belong to any club either, and he only helps out with any club occasionally if they need him. He eats a lot, 3 times the amount that Touya eats. His name "Yukito" means snow rabbit, "Tsukishiro" means moon castle. And he is actually Yue! Yue is the judge for the approval of Sakura's ownership of the Clow Cards. Yue in Chinese means Moon. Yue's symbol is the moon, an opposite of that of Kero.

But that's only because she wants to take Tori's magical powers from him for herself. Even though Nakuru dresses like a girl, Nakuru actually isn't a girl. In fact, she isn't even human. Her true form, Ruby Moon, looks like a woman dressed in red and black, with wings behind her. Nakuru can get really hyper at times.

Spinel's usual shape is like Kero, but it's black with bigger eyes than Kero, looking more like a cat. When magic is acted upon Spinel, it turns into a black panther with butterfly wings. When given anything sweet to eat, Spinel gets "drunk" on it, and starts acting really crazy. Nakuru is always calling him "Suppi" because she claims it sounds cute. Along with Ruby Moon, Spinel Sun is the other guardian of Eriol.
